Olympic Weightlifting Performance in XIXth Commonwealth Games.
Commonwealth Games ended with startle closing ceremony on 14th of this month at Jawahar Lala Stadium Delhi. Both Opening and closing ceremonies were wakening signal to international viewers and sports families it was really impressive and an organized show. All the arrangements were as per international standard.
Weightlifting competitions started on 4th October and ended on 11th October. Eight days people witnessed the best competitions.
Participating Countries
In weightlifting event 37 countries participated. The details of the participated countries are as under:

Australia, Cook Islands, Kiribati, Nauru, New Zealand, Niue, Papua New Ginea, Samoa, Solomon Island, Tonga ,Tuvalu, and Vanatu.
Africa/11
Cameroon, Kenya , Malawi, Mauritius, Nigeria, Seychelles, South Africa, Sierra Leone, Swaziland, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Asia/6
Bangladesh, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, Singapore and Sri Lanka.
Europe/5
Cyprus, England, Malta, Scotland and Wales.
Caribbean/2
Barbados and Turk & Caicos Island.
America/1
Canada.
204 lifters took part in 7 women and 8 men categories from 37 Commonwealth countries and showed their best performance on the stage.
New Games Records
33 new games records set by the women in weightlifting competitions and 12 new records set by the men. If we have a look in these records the figures are very clear and we can assess easily that women weightlifting standard is raising very sharply than the men competitions the percentage of these records are near about three times more then the men competition. It is very clear to predict that women wing is becoming stronger then the men side. In weightlifting XIXth Commonwealth games have set new dimensions for the next games being held in Scotland in 2014. Women competitors will have more tough competition in next games then the men categories.
Out Standing Performance
69 men category was the best category for the spectators and weightlifting lovers. An out standing total performed by the Indian weightlifter Ravi Kumar KATULU. 146kg snatch is a world class snatch and Clean &jerk 175kg he performed successfully. The 2nd boy was the last Commonwealth games gold medalist Chinthana Geethal Vidanage from Sri Lanka. He did snatch 134kg and 174kg in Clean & Jerk. Both lifters did Clean and Jerk very good. Sri Lankan boy also performed very well and he did 308kg in total. Same 308kg total performed by the Ben Turner from Australia in 77 category and he also won Silver medal for the country.
Nauru and Samoa are the countries, appearing like a shinning star in the sport of weightlifting and all the lifters participated in the games and performed extraordinary. Nauru is such a power house of weightlifting and has a very bright future in this sport.
Medal Winner Countries
There were 10 medal winning countries among Women, and within them Nigeria ry excelled with a total of 6 medals won. The ranking follows as: IND/4, CAN/3, AUS/2, CMR/1, ENG/1, MAS/1, SAM/1, SEY/1 and WAL/1. In Men's competition for the Gold, Silver and Bronze besides Malaysia, Indian lifters proved to be the bests by winning 4-4 medals altogether. The ranking follows as: AUS/3, CAN/2, NGR/2, NRU/2, NZL/2, SAM/2, SCO/2 and SRI/2.
Total medals/countries follows as: IND/8, NGR/8, AUS/5, CAN/5, MAS/5, SAM/3, NRU/2, NZL/2, SRI/2, CMR/1, ENG/1, SCO/1, SEY/1 and WAL/1.
South Asian Countries
South Asian Commonwealth Countries were 4 in the games, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Only India and Sri Lanka is the medals winners in the South Asian countries. Indian lifters have shown their best performance in the competitions. Sudes Peries of Sri Lanka in 62 Category won Bronze medal and ChinthanaVidanage won Silver medal for the country. In last games held in 2006 at Melbourne Sri Lanka had only one gold medal but this time 2 medals are the signal that weightlifting in Sri Lanka is becoming popular among the young generation.
